Voters in North Malaita Constituency have ushered in a new Member of Parliament.

He is Daniel Waneoroa, who had served at the provincial headquarters in Auki prior to contesting the elections.

Waneoroa unseated incumbent Senley Filualea in a contest that featured seven candidates.

“This is a new era for North Malaita,” Wilfred Iro told In-depth Solomons last night from North Malaita.

“People here wanted to see a new MP at the helm,” Iro said.

“Today’s result was a reflection of their desire,” he added.

Waneoroa contested under the Umi for Change (U4C) banner. This newly established political party was led by Daniel Suidani, one of Malaita’s former premiers who also regained his seat at the provincial elections.

Meanwhile, voters in West Kwara’ae Constituency have given Alfred Tuasulia a second chance to represent them in parliament.

Tuasulia, a businessman in Honiara prior to entering parliament, first claimed the seat in June last year in a by-election.

This was after Sam Iduri, the previous MP for the constituency, died while still serving.

Tuasulia contested under the banner of United Party, led by charismatic and well-spoken leader Peter Kenilorea.

Tuasulia was up against four candidates, including senior citizen and former MP Sam Alasia.
