Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has congratulated United States President-elect Donald Trump for his resounding victory in the US elections on November 5.

Trump, a Republican, swept back to power to become the 47th President of the United States of America.

Manele said that the People of the United States of America have spoken through their ballots to elect Trump for a second time as president of the United States.

“Me and my government look forward to working with President Trump when he takes office,” Manele said.

“Our countries share the same aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous world and especially a peaceful Pacific Islands region,” he added.

Prime Minister Manele stated that the Solomon Islands and the United States of America share a special bond of friendship, a relationship that was forged during the Second World War when the United States Marines fought and turned the tide of the Second World War in the battle of Guadalcanal among the many battles fought in the Pacific Theatre.

Prime Minister Manele said he looks forward to fostering a deepening and broader relationship with the United States of America based on trust and mutual respect for sovereignty in the coming years.
