Minister of Education, Hon, Tozen Leokana, on Monday, January 13th, 2025 endorsed the
release of the 2025 Solomon Islands Government scholarships recipients list.

This was after the Scholarship Selection Committee Chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Dr
Franco Rodie had completed the selection process, which was based on the assessment of
candidates’ applications received and assessed by the Scholarship Assessment Committee
chaired by the Director of National Scholarship Division.

In a statement, the Director of the National Scholarship Division, Dr. John Iromea stated that
he was pleased that the Minister has endorsed the scholarship recipients’ list – given the time
it took his committee to assess the scholarship applications, which eventuated in the selection
of the successful candidates.

“I am pleased to inform you that the 2025 SIG scholarships recipients have been approved by
the Hon. Minister of Education for implementation and my division will begin to notify the
successful candidates immediately,” Dr Iromea said.

He commends members of the assessment and selection committees for their commitment as
well as government agencies who have been supportive in verifying and confirming eligible
candidates for 2025 scholarships.

He also acknowledges PS Dr. Rodie and his senior management team, made up deputy
secretaries of MEHRD in enabling the National Scholarship Division to complete the
selection process, and to ensure the set of criteria used were followed stringently.

Dr Iromea added that “the Solomon Islands Government, under the National Scholarship
Division, is unwavering in its commitment and endeavour to supporting human resource
training and development as a significant opportunity for the academic success and personal
growth of students with higher GPAs and Aggregates in Form 7 and Form 6.

He said this scholarship and funding support will ensure that those committed and
hardworking students with excellent academic results deserve to be offered scholarships to
further their education in the tertiary education institutions and to pursue the academic
programs and qualifications.

The categories of scholarships that the Solomon Islands Government has funded include
certificate, diploma and undergraduate and postgraduate programs for preservice and in-
service. For the preservice category, there are five sub-categories of scholarships, and these
include 1) school-based scholarships, 2) Constituency scholarships, 3) Preservice
Skills/TVET scholarships, 4) Preservice Bilateral scholarships, 5) and self-funded
scholarships. For the in-service category, the five sub-categories include 1) teacher scholarships, 2) public sector scholarships, 3) private sector scholarships, 4) open
scholarships, and 5) closed scholarships.

For the 2025 round of scholarships, a total of 4,987 online applications were received. There
were 3,730 applicants who applied for the scholarships under the preservice category and
1,257 applicants in the in-service category. Of these applicants, only 1,038 candidates were
selected based on the selection criteria used, which include academic performance,
foundational skills, leadership and community participation, industry training needs, and
financial and socio-economic status of candidates that applied. Those who have been selected
for the 2025 SIG scholarships will be published and made available in the MEHRD/SITESA
website, media outlets, and the NSD notice board.

“We have full confidence in the successful recipients of the 2025 SIG scholarships. We
believe the successful candidates will take advantage of the opportunity provided and attain
their qualifications at the end of their studies, and to participate actively in the socio
economic development of our country.

“Congratulations and best wishes to all the recipients of the 2025 SIG Scholarships,” Director
John said.

Meanwhile the Constituency scholarship listings will be published next week.
