Australia has delivered the final batch of vehicles in a new SBD 25 million police fleet for the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), completing the handover of 61 locally-procured vehicles. The support is part of a broader SBD 100 million package, which also funds road upgrades across Honiara ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

The latest delivery of 39 Ford Rangers was formally handed over in Honiara by Australian High Commissioner Rod Hilton, alongside Police Minister Hon. Jimson Tanangada and Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka.

It follows the first handover of 22 vehicles on 25 August, witnessed by Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele and Cabinet Ministers, who described the support as the largest single vehicle delivery from any partner since RAMSI.

“These vehicles are more than just transport—they are a direct boost to RSIPF’s capability to protect and serve the people of Solomon Islands, in Honiara and across the provinces,” High Commissioner Hilton said.

He reaffirmed Australia’s role as Solomon Islands’ primary security partner, noting the vehicles will strengthen policing during the Forum and beyond, while also supporting essential infrastructure upgrades.

The vehicles were supplied and fitted out by local firm United Auto, creating jobs for Solomon Islander mechanics, electricians, sales staff, and designers. The procurement also marks the return of Ford Motor Company to Solomon Islands through its local dealership, expanding the country’s automotive market.

“This investment in security is also an investment in Solomon Islands’ economy—generating jobs, supporting businesses, and building resilience,” High Commissioner Hilton added.

The initiative aligns with the Solomon Islands National Security Strategy (2025–2028) and underscores the strength of the Solomon Islands–Australia security partnership.
