Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Rod Hilton,
conducted his first official meeting with Solomon Islands’ new Prime Minister,
Hon Jeremiah Manele last week.

Their meeting followed Australian Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese,
conveying his congratulations by telephone on Friday 3 May.

Referring to the strong friendship between the two countries, High Commissioner
Hilton said Solomon Islands and Australia have a deep and enduring partnership.
“It is shaped by our shared geography and history, and the connections built
between our peoples over many decades.

“We were pleased to support the Solomon Islands’ successful delivery of their historic
Joint Elections, and we look forward to deepening our long-standing economic,
development and security partnership, for the benefit of both our countries.”

The High Commissioner’s meeting with Prime Minister Manele was the first official
call by a foreign Head of Mission.

“We remain committed to working closely together,” said High Commissioner Hilton.
