Solomon Islands striker Rovu Boyers boosted his goal tally to eight with a brace in West Adelaide’s dominant 5-1 win over Pontian Eagles in the Football South Australia (FSA) State League One last Saturday.
Boyers displayed outstanding performance scoring two back-to-back goals in quick succession – a thorn to the net from his right foot for his first and a header for his second.
His first goal and West Adelaide’s third of the day came in the 71st minute when he cuts inside the box on the right to meet a perfect pass from teammate Yuya Kato.
Just a minute later, Boyers headed in West Adelaide’s fourth goal after a Pontian defender’s attempted clearance from Kato’s free kick dropped perfectly into his path.
Boyers is currently Hellas joint top scorer with Kato in West Adelaide senior men’s category of the FSA State League One with eight goals each.
He was later substituted in the dying minutes to give way for Lucas Botsos, the club’s top goal scorer with 15 goals across the seniors and reserves level for West Adelaide.
Another Solomon Islands soccer player Junior David came off the bench for Croydon Kings, to replace teammate Luca Trimboli in the 89th minute of a FSA National Premier League (NPL) match on Saturday.
Trimboli scored the first goal in Croydon King’s 2-0 victory against Modbury Jets before Pasia John added the second goal.
David’s Croydon Kings now sit fourth on the FSA NPL table and on equal 21 points with third place FK Beograd.
Down in seventh place on the FSA NPL table is Javin Wae’s Campbelltown City.
Campbelltown recorded a 1-0 defeat against WT Birkalla on Saturday in a match that Wae was an unused substitute.
Wae, David and Boyers were the only three of five Solomon Islanders soccer players in South Australia who appeared for their respective clubs in the FSA NPL and State League One round 13 fixtures.
Two other Solomon Islanders Micah Lea’alafa and William Komasi were not named in the squads of their respective clubs for the FSA State League One round 13 matches due to injuries.
However, Lea’alafa’s club Vipers FC recorded a 1-1 against Adelaide Blue Eagles on Saturday and Komasi’s club Adelaide Cobras were thrashed 8-0 by Fulham United.
Meanwhile in the New South Wales (NSW) NPL, Raphael Leai and his club Wollongong Wolves lost 2-0 to Sydney Olympics on Saturday. Leai was replaced in the 78th minute.
