Twenty-eight MPs showed up in a photo Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele’s office released this evening ahead of tomorrow’s motion of no-confidence.

They include Claudius Teiífi (West Kwaio) and Nestor Ghiro (Central Makira) – two of the 10 MPs who walked out of Manele last Monday.

Three Opposition MPs who left over the weekend to take up ministerial portfolios with GNUT, Opposition MP John Tuhaika, were also in the photo.

“Members of the GNUT coalition convened this afternoon in a caucus meeting at Cabinet,” a government statement issued said.

“They reaffirmed their unity and preparedness to face tomorrow’s vote,” the statement added.

Central Honiara MP Gordon Darcy Lilo is due to move the motion. This comes after the 10 GNUT MPs led by Manasseh Sogavare resigned last Monday.

The statement said today’s meeting focused on reinforcing the government’s collective commitment to stability, good governance, and service to the nation.

During the meeting, Manele reminded Members of Parliament of the important responsibilities before them, including key national priorities that require their continued attention once the motion is addressed.

“At this time, it is essential that we remain focused on our shared responsibility to provide stable and effective leadership for the people of Solomon Islands,” Manele stated.

He said the Government remains confident in its mandate under the 12th Parliament and continues to uphold its commitment to national unity and development.

Meanwhile, the Government claims the following Members of Parliament have affirmed their support for GNUT,  including those who have either rejoined the coalition or signed revocations of their previous resignations:

  • Rollen Seleso, MP for South Guadalcanal
  • Nestor Ghiro, MP for Central Makira
  • John Tuhaika Jnr, MP for Rennell Bellona
  • Claudius Teiífi, MP for West Kwaio
  • Stanley Sofu, MP for East Kwaio
  • William Marau, MP for Ulawa/Ugi
  • Daniel Waneoroa, MP for North Malaita
  • Derrick Rawcliffe Manuari, MP for West Makira
