Guadalcanal Province’s move to have its headquarters built outside of Honiara is finally happening.
It will be built at Mamara, west of Honiara, on a 20-hectare site it acquired from Metropolis Pacific PTE Limited, the company currently holding the title of the land.
Guadalcanal Premier Francis Sade today signed a Sales and Purchase Agreement with Yii Ging Hii, Director of Metropolis Pacific Limited.
Sade thanked Hii for agreeing on the land acquisition arrangement with his province.
Under the arrangement, the $40 million Guadalcanal supposed to pay for the land will be offset by way of land rates that Metropolis owed the province.
Sade said the development of the headquarters is a key policy outcome of his government.
“Having our provincial headquarters outside of Honiara has been an aspiration of Guadalcanal for more than 30 years,” the premier said.

“I think the choice and the decision to put our headquarters at Mamara is the right one,” he added.
Sade said the ongoing partnership between the national government, Metropolis Mamara Development Limited and the Guadalcanal Province is an important one.
“I believe with the signing today will boost the development of Mamara.
“That is something we as a provincial government will continue to stand firm and push behind the national government and Metropolis Mamara Development Limited to achieve our development aspirations.”
Sade also outlined project’s to be built on the Mamara land.
“As part of the development we will build an administration, a tertiary hospital which we are in discussions with the national government to support us on.
“We will build a senior high school, an international peace square and a national unity square, these are part of the headquarters development.”
Speaking today, Hii says they are happy to support Guadalcanal Province because such partnership will result in more efficient development.
“Metropolis Pacific Limited is honoured to be involved in this collaboration with the Guadalcanal Provincial Government and we look forward to embarking in yet another opportunity to further develop Mamara land,” Hii said.
He adds the partnership will mutually benefit the local community and Solomon Islands as a whole.
Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening Rollen Seleso expressed his gratitude towards the Metropolis Mamara Develoopment Limited and the Guadalcanal Provincial government for their relentless efforts to turn this dream into reality.
The Provincial Headquarters project is anticipated to be completed in five years.
