SOLOMON Forest Association (SFA) today handed over a newly-built multi-million dollar hospital to the National Government.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare was at hand to receive the facility – a three-story building, located in the Kukum area of east Honiara.

SFA, a body made up of mostly Asian loggers operating in the Solomon Islands, said it built the hospital at the cost of SBD$30 million.

Its president, Johnny Sy from the Philippines,  told In-depth Solomons the new hospital will accommodate an Outpatient,  Children’s Ward and a private clinic.

Sy said the private clinic will be used to generate income to support the operation of the hospital.

Prime Minister Sogavare, who took delivery of the facility, said the hospital is a symbol of shared vision and commitment to improving and making positive impacts to the lives of ordinary citizens.

“This is the first time in the history of our country for the private sector to build a hospital for the nation,” Sogavare said.

“To many people, SFA is only seen as generating income to support our local economy,” he added.

“Today, we are thankful to see them support us with this hospital.

“This is a testament to the association’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people of Solomon Islands.
