Nestor Ghiro secured his third consecutive term as the Member of Parliament for Central Makira Constituency.
Among the six candidates contending for the seat, Ghiro emerged triumphant, reaffirming his strong support within the constituency.
Initially elected as an independent candidate to the National Parliament in 2014, Ghiro aligned with Prime Minister Mannaseshe Sogavare’s Our party after being re-elected in 2019.
Sogavare appointed him as the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

Ghiro took over the ministerial reins from former Deputy Prime Minister John Maneniaru, who was ousted due to his dissent against the government’s diplomatic shift from Taiwan to China in 2019.
Before that Ghiro served as the Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening in Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela’s cabinet.
Ghiro has been representative of the Central Makira Constituency since the 2014 general elections, earning the trust and confidence of his constituents.
Last year, Minister Ghiro led a high-level delegation to Beijing to bolster fisheries cooperation with China.
During discussions with Chinese counterparts, Ghiro expressed gratitude for the existing friendly fisheries collaboration between the two nations.
Affirming Solomon Islands’ commitment to fostering deeper ties with China, Ghiro emphasized the importance of cooperation in advancing the fisheries industry and improving the standard of living for the people of Solomon Islands.
With the election results so far ‘Our Party’ is leading the parliament.
Willie Bradford Marau, former minister, has also secured a third term as Ulawa/Ugi Constituency.
