The People’s Republic of China’s naval hospital ship, Peace Ark, has arrived at the Honiara International Ports Terminal for an 8-day visit, offering free medical services to the public.
The vessel has opened its doors to the people of Honiara, providing outpatient medical checkups and a range of medical services at no cost.
Since its arrival last Saturday, the local community has turned out in impressive numbers to take advantage of the opportunity.
The ship’s arrival on Saturday morning was warmly welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Mansseh Maelanga, who noted, “This auspicious occasion marks a significant step towards strengthening the bond of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between Solomon Islands and China.”
The Pacific voyage of Peace Ark is in alignment with its “Vision Peace and Harmony 2023.”
A statement from the PRC embassy highlighted, “This maiden visit by the ship to the Solomon Islands signifies a momentous stride forward in the bilateral relations between China and SI.”

Docked at Honiara Port from the 19th to the 26th of August, the “Ark Peace” is offering free medical services to the people of Solomon Islands.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare also visited the Peace Ark on Sunday, underscoring the importance of this mission.
Since opening its doors, the medical team from “Ark Peace” has reached out to the community.
They visited the Maranatha Hall in east Honiara to provide their services and will continue their efforts today at Maranatha Hall.
The general public is encouraged to take advantage of the free medical service during this period.
