A three-day Regional Media Workshop held ahead of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM) concluded today in Honiara, with a commitment to make the training an annual event.
In his closing remarks, Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Baron Waqa reaffirmed the Forum’s support for strengthening Pacific media.
“We are committed to working with you, and we reaffirm our commitment to ensure that this regional media workshop is convened every year,” he said.
Incoming Forum Chair and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, in his official welcome, highlighted the crucial role of the media in connecting Forum decisions to the people of the Pacific.
“Our people will ask: ‘What does this mean for me? For my family? For my community?’ It is through your work that those answers will be found,” Manele said.

Solomon Islands hosted the Forum for the third time, following 1979 and 1992. This year’s theme is “Iumi Tugeda: Act Now for an Integrated Blue Pacific Continent.”
The 54th PIF Leaders Meeting will officially open at the National Stadium tomorrow, Monday, 8 September 2025.
