Solomon Islands’ very own Solomon Kings Football Club (FC) has been confirmed as one of eight preferred clubs selected to compete in the inaugural OFC Professional League, set to kick off in January 2026. This marks a major breakthrough for local football, as Kings will represent the nation on Oceania’s first-ever professional football stage.
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) announced the preferred clubs following a comprehensive club licensing process, with the OFC Executive Committee approving the selections based on recommendations from the Independent Club Licensing Committee. While the eight clubs are still subject to final compliance checks, their inclusion highlights a new era for football in the region.
The league, which will run from January to May 2026, is not only historic but also highly significant—it will serve as Oceania’s pathway to the FIFA Club World Cup™ 2029, giving Pacific clubs a direct shot at global competition.
Seven nations are represented among the eight clubs: Bula Boys FC (Fiji), Hekari United FC (Papua New Guinea), Solomon Kings FC (Solomon Islands), Tahiti United FC (Tahiti), Vanuatu FC (Vanuatu), Auckland FC and Christchurch United FC (New Zealand), and South Melbourne FC (Australia).
OFC General Secretary Franck Castillo described the announcement as a landmark for Pacific football.
“This is a historic moment for Oceania football. For the first time, our region will have a professional league that provides a pathway for players, coaches, and clubs to compete at the highest level within the Pacific,” Castillo said.
The OFC Professional League will feature five circuit series rounds hosted across the Pacific. Each team will play at least 17 matches before advancing into playoff stages—split into Leaders and Challengers groups—leading to single-leg semi-finals and a grand final.
The official launch of the league will take place in Auckland, New Zealand, on October 29, 2025.
