New-comer George Temahua has unseated three-term MP Silas Tausinga in election battle for West New Georgia-Vona Vona Constituency, Western Province.
Temahua contested the race under the banner of Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP), led by former Opposition MP Matthew Wale.
Tausinga, a United Party candidate, has held the seat since August 2010.
West New Georgia-Vona Vona Constituency hosts the country’s second international sea-port Noro, and Munda International Airport.
It is also home to Tuna town, where the country’s only cannery is operating.
Meanwhile, voters in the nearby Rannogga-Simbo Constituency have voted in a young leader and lawyer, Wayne Ghemu, to be their new parliamentary representative.
Ghemu was a private law practitioner prior to contesting the April 17 polls.
He beat Charles Sigoto, who held the seat since 2010.
