The Solomon Islands United Party (UP) wishes to clarify its current parliamentary position following the recent shakeup of the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) in the wake of recent political maneuverings.
The United Party was not invited by GNUT to be part of the new look governing coalition. As such, the two remaining UP Members of Parliament—Parliamentary Wing Leader Hon. Peter Kenilorea Jr and Hon. Alfred Tuasulia—have not signed any coalition agreement with either the Government.
UP has not signed a coalition agreement with the Opposition group as well.
In line with this, both members will continue to sit as Independent Members of Parliament, upholding the principles and values that define the United Party.
“The United Party stands on a platform of integrity, national interest, and people centered policies,” said Hon. Peter Kenilorea Jr.
“While we were not approached to join the current governing coalition, despite a number of our members joining GNUT, we remain committed to serving our people with diligence in our relentless pursuit of the true spirit of parliamentary democracy.”
Hon. Alfred Tuasulia added, “Our allegiance is to the people of Solomon Islands, not to political convenience. Remaining independent allows us to stay true to the core values of the United Party—honesty, service, and national unity.”
The United Party reaffirms its dedication to playing a constructive and principled role in Parliament, ensuring that national interests are upheld and that the voice of the people remains central in all parliamentary deliberations and legislative matters.
