Vanuatu United delivered a dominant performance to defeat Solomon Kings 2–0 in Melbourne, strengthening their push for a top-four finish in the OFC Pro League standings.
After severe weather postponed earlier fixtures, both teams entered the match eager to maintain momentum. However, it was Vanuatu United who seized control early, putting Solomon Kings under sustained pressure throughout the first half.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when American midfielder William Cardona’s curling corner kick evaded everyone in the box, including goalkeeper Phillip Mango, and found the far corner to give his side a deserved lead.

Solomon Kings, who had entered the match with the league’s strongest defensive record, struggled to assert themselves and were fortunate not to concede earlier after a defensive error nearly gifted Vanuatu United an opening goal.
Vanuatu United extended their advantage shortly after the restart with one of the goals of the match. Otto Ingham’s cross into the penalty area was laid off by Owen Smith into the path of Bill Kaltack, who struck a powerful low volley into the corner in the 53rd minute, leaving Mango with no chance and sending the Vanuatu supporters into celebration.

Despite holding a two-goal cushion, Vanuatu United continued to threaten and had multiple chances to increase their lead. Several goals were ruled out following VAR reviews, including efforts from Owen Smith and Raymond Diho, both denied for offside infringements.
Solomon Kings attempted to mount a comeback, with Jez Lofthouse forcing a strong save from goalkeeper Matt Acton. Head coach Ben Cahn introduced Solomon Islands international Rafa Lea’i in the second half in search of inspiration, and the forward came closest to scoring late in the match, striking the post after a determined individual run.

However, Solomon Kings were unable to break through, as Vanuatu United maintained control and saw out the match comfortably.
The result marks Vanuatu United’s second consecutive victory and lifts them level on points with fourth-placed South Island United, missing out on the top four only on goal difference. Meanwhile, Solomon Kings will look to regroup after suffering their first defeat following an otherwise strong start to the campaign.
