LEADER of Opposition Matthew Wale has urged government authorities to take firm action against foreign businesses that do not respect Solomon Islands’ laws.

From Win-Win’s attempt to smuggle gold, to the illegal purchase of trochus by Z.H.B Goods Ltd, Wale stated that foreign businesses that break our laws must face justice.

“Authorities must put their foot down,” Wale said in a statement.

“We cannot have foreign businesses playing cowboy with the laws of this land, while local businesses and entrepreneurs suffocate in their attempts to adhere to it. This must stop,” he added.

The Opposition Leader encouraged public servants and all Solomon Islanders to also speak up and report any illegal practices carried out by foreign businesses.

“We need more of these cooperative networks between citizens, regulatory bodies, and enforcement agencies with the goal of seeing our laws upheld and our land walked upon with respect,” Wale said.

The Opposition Leader said there is no place in Solomon Islands for foreign businesses that have no respect for our laws.

“It is high time that the government cautions foreign businesses with a strong message and acts on it accordingly,” he said.
