Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele today launched his Government’s 100-Day Program and Policy Statement in Honiara.

The event, held at the Heritage Park Hotel, was co-hosted by the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI), representing a collaborative effort between the government and the business community.

In his keynote address, Manele, elected after this year’s April 17 polls, spoke of the government’s commitment to fostering national unity and driving transformative change across the country, through the two documents – 100 days program and the Policy statement.

Introduction of Key Documents

Prime Minister Manele introduced two critical documents aimed at guiding the nation towards unity, transformation, and sustainable development:

1. 100 Days Program

2. Policy Statement Document

Overview of the 100 Days Program

According to Manele, the 100 Days Program is a detailed and actionable plan designed to kick-start the government’s initiatives and demonstrate its immediate commitment to the people of the Solomon Islands.

He said the program outlines a series of targeted actions and measurable goals that his government aims to achieve within the first 100 days of its administration, which officially start today. 

“It serves as a testament to our readiness to deliver prompt and effective governance,” the first-time prime minister and former diplomat said.

The key focus areas of the 100 Days Program include:

1. Economic Measures

   – Strengthening tax compliance

   – Reviewing MoUs with mining companies

   – Ensuring quality and value in government procurement

2. Governance and Transparency

   – Supporting anti-corruption measures

   – Enhancing public access to information

3. Infrastructure Projects

   – Initiating road repairs, water supply improvements, and connectivity enhancements

4. Social Welfare Programs

   – Improving healthcare and education

   – Providing social support

5. Environmental Protection Initiatives

   – Protecting coastal and marine ecosystems

   – Promoting sustainable practices

6. National and International Collaboration

   – Convening a National Economic Summit to foster collaboration across various sectors

   – Developing a comprehensive economic roadmap

7. Donor Roundtable

   – Organizing an event to align donor support with national priorities

8. Legal Education in Schools

   – Introducing compulsory legal education to promote civic responsibilities and good governance

Overview of the Policy Statement Document

Prime Minister Manele also highlighted that “The Policy Statement Document is a comprehensive blueprint for our nation’s future, developed with full guidance from the National Development Strategy and its medium-term goals.”

The Policy Statement Document outlines the government’s long-term strategy, built upon four foundational pillars:

1. Economic Transformation

   – Promoting sustainable practices and entrepreneurship

   – Reducing living and business costs

2. Unity and Stability

   – Fostering an inclusive society

   – Ensuring transparent governance and human rights

3. Infrastructure Development

   – Investing in roads, bridges, communication networks, and energy supply

4. Human Capital Development

   – Prioritizing education, healthcare, and skills development

Commitment to Ocean Governance and Agricultural Development

Manele emphasized the government’s dedication to:

– Combatting pollution and overfishing

– Expanding commercial farming for local consumption and exports

“This government is committed to Ocean Governance and Agricultural Development. 

“We will take decisive steps to combat pollution, overfishing, and habitat destruction. 

“By implementing sustainable practices and conservation measures, we will ensure that our coastal and marine environments remain vibrant and productive for future generations. 

“We will engage with farmers and develop a partnership in agriculture sector expanding our commercial farming capabilities for local consumption and exports.”

Conclusion

Prime Minister Manele said while some of these policies may not yield immediate impacts, they are designed with a forward-thinking approach to set the platform for long-term positive effects. 

“They are foundational strategies that, over time, will cultivate sustainable growth, resilience, and prosperity. 

“By laying this groundwork now, we are ensuring that future generations will benefit from a more robust economy, a more inclusive society, and a healthier environment. 

“These initiatives are investments in our nation’s future, building the necessary infrastructure and capabilities that will lead to enduring progress and development,” Manele said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to the aspirations and development of the Solomon Islands, urging collective effort towards transformation and a prosperous future. 

“These two documents—the 100 Days Program and the Policy Statement Document—are not just roadmaps but pledges to the people of the Solomon Islands. 

“They reflect our collective aspirations and our commitment to building a prosperous, united, and resilient nation. 

“Together, we will navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead, guided by the principles of good governance, inclusivity, and sustainability.

“Today, as we launch these foundational documents, I urge everyone to join us in this transformative journey. 

“Let us work hand in hand, in unity and with determination, to bring about the change we seek. Together, we will build a brighter future for the Solomon Islands.”
