Voters in Temotu Pele Constituency in the far eastern province of Temotu have elected a new Member of Parliament.
James Bonuga, a former Customs Officer and businessman, unseated Duddley Kopu in the April 17 polls to claim the seat.
Bonuga entered the race under the banner of Solomon Islands Democratic Party (SIDP), while Kopu was an OUR Party candidate.
Bonuga’s election victory was declared this evening by Temotu Pele constituency Returning Officer, Doreen Fakarakei.

Temotu Pele was one of the three constituencies that made up Temotu Province.
The other two Temotu Nende and Temotu Vatud, whose winners are yet to be announced.
