Australia Increases Funding For Community Projects in Solomons

Australia continues its partnership with local communities across Solomon Islands, announcing a record 74 Solomon Islands–Australia Community Partnerships projects in its second round for 2026.

The program directly supports locally-led development and improves the livelihoods of thousands of Solomon Islanders across the country.

“The projects awarded in Round 2 for 2026, valued at more than SBD18 million, will support communities in every province through investments in education, health, water and sanitation, renewable energy, community facilities and disaster recovery,” a statement from the Australian High Commission said.

“This round included additional funding to support communities with earlier projects that were damaged by Tropical Cyclone Maila, helping restore infrastructure, strengthen resilience and support long-term recovery efforts,” it added.

“The record 74 projects awarded in this current round, combined with the 51 projects funded in round one earlier this year, means Australia has supported a record 125 Community Partnerships projects in 2026 across every province in Solomon Islands.

“With over SBD 30 million in Community Partnerships program funding awarded across rounds one and two in 2026, these projects will generate significant opportunities for Solomon Islands businesses, with funding directed towards local contractors, suppliers, transport providers and workers involved in project delivery.”

Australian High Commissioner Jeff Roach said the Community Partnerships program demonstrates Australia’s commitment to listening to communities and supporting Solomon Islands-led development.

“The Solomon Islands-Australia Community Partnerships program continues to deliver tangible outcomes to local communities across every constituency and every province of Solomon Islands” Roach said.

“With around 80% of Solomon Islands’ population living in rural areas, I understand how important it is for communities to have quality infrastructure that improves their lives,” he added.

“The growing number of applications we receive every round demonstrates that this program is more popular and more relevant to Solomon Islands development priorities than ever.

“We particularly acknowledge the important role many Members of Parliament play through co-contributions that expand the reach and impact of these projects.

“These shared investments demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering results for communities across Solomon Islands.

“I am especially proud that all these projects are locally led. Local leaders set the priorities and local pride drives the outcomes. This is development that’s community-driven, transparent, and built to last.”

Roach said Australia remains committed to supporting locally-led development and working alongside Solomon Islands communities to deliver practical infrastructure that improves wellbeing, strengthens resilience and creates lasting benefits for future generations.

Since 2019, the Community Partnerships program has supported 416 projects across every constituency and province in Solomon Islands, injecting over SBD94 million directly into local businesses and communities.
