Bina Harbour was the central topic when Prime Minister Matthew Wale met with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the U.S. State Department today.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Solomon Islands and the United States, with Landau assuring the Prime Minister of U.S. support for the Bina Harbour Project.
Wale reminded his host of the long-standing historical ties between the two countries and reiterated his Government’s commitment to strengthening relations with all international partners.
Both leaders agreed to advance discussions on Bina Harbour going forward.
The Prime Minister also outlined his Government’s key priorities for the next two years, pointing to opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the energy sector, as well as engagement with the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).
Deputy Secretary Landau welcomed the Government’s renewed approach to international partnerships and emphasised the importance of the bilateral relationship.
Wale is in Washington, D.C. this week for a series of high-level bilateral engagements. Beyond the State Department, he is scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials from the Development Finance Corporation, the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Peace Corps signalling that Solomon Islands is casting a wide net for partnerships across the U.S. government.
