The Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) has unveiled the design concept for its new multi-million dollar headquarters and announced the commencement of procurement processes for what is expected to become one of the country’s most significant institutional infrastructure developments.
The announcement was made by CBSI Board Director David Quan, who described the project as a major investment in the future of both the central bank and the nation.
And it comes as CBSI marks its 50th anniversary this week.
“CBSI is pleased to announce the commencement of the procurement phase of the capital works development project known as the CBSI New Headquarters Project,” Quan said.
He added the development is designed to support the bank’s growing operational requirements while strengthening its capacity to serve the people of Solomon Islands.
“CBSI plays a critical role in maintaining monetary and financial stability, managing the country’s foreign reserves, overseeing the financial system, and promoting sustainable economic development,” he said.
According to the bank, the project reflects the increasing demands placed on the institution, including advancements in banking technology, heightened security requirements, and the need for modern workplace facilities.
The proposed headquarters will feature modern banking and office facilities, enhanced safety and security systems, improved operational efficiency, and dedicated spaces to accommodate future growth and technological advancement.
CBSI’s vision for the new facility is to create a modern, secure, resilient, and sustainable headquarters that reflects the values, aspirations, and identity of Solomon Islands while meeting the highest standards expected of a central bank.
“The facility will serve as a symbol of stability, institutional excellence, and confidence in the country’s future,” Quan said.
The design incorporates functionality, security, sustainability, and cultural identity, with advanced banking and treasury facilities, modern access-control systems, and other state-of-the-art features.
The new eight-storey headquarters is expected to be completed by 2030 and will be located directly behind the current CBSI headquarters in Honiara.
As part of the next phase, CBSI will soon call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified contractors and is also inviting eligible and reputable firms to provide project management consultancy services. The selected consultancy firm will oversee the project from the design stage through to completion.
Once completed, the new headquarters is expected to stand as a landmark development, reinforcing CBSI’s role at the centre of Solomon Islands’ economic and financial future.
