Investigation Underway into Police Officer Accused of Mistreating Wife and Child

The Professional Standards and Internal Investigation (PSII) Department of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has launched an investigation into a police officer accused of mistreating his wife.

The investigation follows a social media post that went viral, showing the wife of a police officer and her young child allegedly sleeping on the street. The post sparked public concern and prompted authorities to take immediate action.

It is alleged that the officer has on several occasions forced his wife and child out of their home following family disagreements. The most recent incident reportedly involved the woman and her baby being found at the NPF Plaza (Anthony Saru Building) in Honiara.

RSIPF Acting Commissioner Mr. Mathias Lenialu strongly condemned the alleged actions and confirmed that an official investigation is now in progress.

“The Director of the Professional Standards & Internal Investigation [PSII] and team have progressed the investigation,” Mr Lenialu said, in a statement today.

Acting Commissioner Lenialu further explained that the next steps will depend on the findings of the PSII team.

“PSII is finalizing the case file, then send it to my office for further instruction to be made based on their findings,” he added.

He also expressed concern over the situation but commended the victim for coming forward.

“This is really a sad situation, but I am happy that the wife of the police officer has the courage to come forward and assist PSII with their investigation,” Acting Commissioner Lenialu stated.

The RSIPF has reiterated its commitment to upholding professional standards within the force and ensuring that any officer found to have acted unlawfully or unethically is held accountable.
