MP Salopuka Hands Over New $328,000 Community Hall to Nukufero

Residents of Nukufero in the Russell Islands, Central Islands Province gathered in celebration on Friday 21st November 2025, as Savo/Russells MP Oliver Salopuka officially handed over their newly completed $328,000 community hall — fully funded through Constituency development funds.

As the ribbon was cut, shouts of happiness and claps of joy erupted in front of the newly completed Community Hall.

The project aims to provide the people of Nukufero with a proper venue to hold meetings and activities.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony,  Mr Salopuka acknowledged the people of Nukufero for their patience and support that helped complete the project in just over seven months.

“As your member of parliament, I believe in supporting development that directly touches the lives of my people,” he said.

Salopuka also reminded attendees that progress begins at the community level, and that when people work together, they can build stronger, more resilient communities.

“This community hall represents what we can achieve when we work together. It stands as a center where our people can gather to discuss ideas, celebrate our culture, hold meetings, church programs, trainings, and community events.

“It’s a place where voices will be heard and where plans for a better future can be shaped,” he added.

Edna Rangiteasia, a women’s leader from Nukufero, thanked the MP for recognizing and supporting what the community needed most.

“On behalf of the women of Nukufero, we want to acknowledge Mr Salopuka for granting us what we have wished for – an established space in our community,” she said.

Peter Nukuofa, a member of the Constituency Development Committee, expressed great  gratitude at the handover.

“No amount of joy can compare with today’s happiness,” he stated.

He added, the Community Hall is a milestone in modern development for Nukufero.

The building measures 26 meters in length and 12 meters in width.

In-depth Solomons understands that eight additional community halls, funded by Constituency Development Funds, are currently under construction, and other communities within the constituency are also set to have halls built.
