The newly elected Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele for the first time has met with Papua New Guinea’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. John Rosso, in Honiara last Friday. 

PNG’s Deputy Prime Minister Rosso, flew in from Papua New Guinea for a brief visit to convey congratulatory wishes on behalf of PNG’s Prime Minister, Honourable James Marape, and the people of Papua New Guinea.

During their meeting, PNG’s Deputy Prime Minister Rosso extended congratulations to Prime Minister Manele on his election as the Prime Minister of Solomon Islands. He emphasized the deep-rooted connections between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, highlighting their shared Melanesian heritage and longstanding relations.

Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Manele acknowledged the gesture from Deputy Prime Minister Rosso and his delegation, appreciating their promptness in conveying their congratulatory message in person. He reiterated the strong bonds between the two nations and thanked Papua New Guinea for its support and assistance, particularly in ensuring peaceful elections through the deployment of police personnel.

Both leaders affirmed their commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations, focusing on areas such as border management, education, immigration, investment, and policing. They exchanged gifts as a symbol of goodwill during the meeting.

Accompanying PNG’s Deputy Prime Minister Rosso were PNG’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Moses Kaul, and PNG’s Secretary to Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elias Wohengu.
