Prime Minister Manele Highlights Regional Unity Following PIF’s Troika Meeting In Brisbane

by EDNAL PALMER

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele today outlined Solomon Islands’ continued regional leadership role following his participation in the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Troika meeting held in Brisbane, Australia.

Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Manele said the engagement formed part of his official responsibilities for the year in his capacity as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum.

The Troika meeting brought together the current, incoming, and outgoing Forum Chairs to assess key regional developments following the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting held in Honiara last year.

According to Mr Manele, discussions at the meeting centred on the review of the Forum’s regional architecture and the Leaders’ Communiqué, with an emphasis on ensuring the Forum remains effective and responsive to the region’s evolving needs.

Prime Minister Manele underscored the importance of unity, dialogue and consensus within the Forum, particularly as Pacific Island countries continue to face common challenges. These include the impacts of climate change, ongoing economic pressures, and increasingly complex geopolitical dynamics affecting the region.

He said Solomon Islands, as Forum Chair, remains committed to fostering collective Pacific leadership and strengthening regional cooperation, while at the same time remaining mindful of national priorities and domestic circumstances.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Solomon Islands will continue to play a constructive role in advancing regional interests throughout its term as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum.
