Isabel’s longest-serving Member of the Provincial Assembly Rhoda Sikilabu retains her seat for a fifth term for Sigana Ward.
Speaking to In-depth Solomons, Sikilabu expressed gratitude to her voters for recognizing her hard work and dedication.
Having served as the provincial member of Sigana Ward since 2006, Sikilabu said this would be her final term.
“I have been a politician for 16 years already and this term will mark 20 years of service,” she said.
“I am humbled to say my victory is the result of my hard work,” she added.
Sikilabu encouraged women in politics to excel and be responsible leaders, adding women must work harder to gain recognition and stay in office.
“It takes a lot of effort to achieve recognition,” she said. “If you perform better than men, you will be re-elected.”
She said she will retire and pass on the mantle to a successor after she completes this term.
