The launch of the inaugural OFC Professional League at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand has been hailed as a historic milestone for Solomon Islands football, with the inclusion of Solomon Kings FC as one of the eight teams to compete in the region’s first-ever professional competition.
Speaking on the significance of the announcement, Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Technical Director Moses Toata described the inclusion of the Solomon Kings FC in the league as “exciting news for everybody” and a “huge moment” for the country.
“To be part of this professional league means a lot for the people of Solomon Islands,” Toata said.
“It brings a lot of opportunity for everyone in the country, and we are really looking forward to seeing our team compete at the professional level.”
Toata added that joining the OFC Professional League will require a new mindset and a more structured approach to football development across the nation.
He believes the league will not only elevate the standard of the national game but also inspire the next generation of players.
“This competition is a different level for us,” he added.
“I believe it will make a big impact — not just for the team, but for the next generation who will look up to the Solomon Kings as icons and heroes.”

As the Solomon Kings FC prepare for their debut season, Toata said the focus now is on building a strong, competitive squad that can represent the nation with pride and professionalism.
“We want the fans to get behind the team, to love the team, and to support them all the way,” he said.
The OFC Professional League is set to mark a new era for football in Oceania, offering a platform for clubs across the Pacific to compete at a professional standard for the first time.
For Solomon Islands, it signifies a bold step toward realizing its long-held dream of developing football into a sustainable, professional industry.
