A viral video about Nice 1 Rice, distributed by Unique Enterprise Limited, has caused serious damage to the company—resulting in more than SBD $1 million in lost orders and the temporary closure of its warehouse in Honiara.
Last week, a video circulated on social media showing staff repacking wet rice from containers at the company’s Rove warehouse. The video made it seem like the rice was being prepared for sale to customers.
But the company responded quickly, saying the rice shown in the video was never meant for sale and was being repacked only to feed their dogs—not for human consumption.
The video, posted by two individuals, caused widespread public concern.
In just three days, the company lost SBD $540,000 worth of orders.
Health authorities also stepped in and temporarily closed the warehouse, leaving several workers without jobs, mostly local Solomon Islanders.
“The video damaged our reputation and our livelihood,” said a company spokesperson.
“But the rice shown was never sold. No one received bad rice from us.”
The individuals who posted the video have since taken it down and issued a public apology.
But the damage had already been done.
“We are now at peace, but it still hurts,” the spokesperson added.
“People judged us without knowing the full story.”
The Spokesperson explained that the company had spent years building trust with customers, only to see that trust shaken overnight.
Since last Friday, Unique Enterprise confirmed that the total loss from the incident had climbed to over SBD $1 million.
“We cried. We worked so hard to build this company. We only wanted to help our community, and our boss is a good and generous person,” the spokesperson said.
Despite the hardship, the company and its workers remain hopeful.
They thanked the customers and supporters who continued to stand by them through the situation.
“This is more than just a job—it’s our life and our dream,” said the spokesperson.
“We thank God for giving us strength and thank those who still believe in us.”

To rebuild public trust, Unique Enterprise has confirmed it will continue to distribute Nice 1 Rice across the Solomon Islands. The company has also launched free Nice 1 products giveaways, to thank 999 loyal customers and followers who continue to support and promote the brand.
In-depth Solomons understands that Unique Enterprise Limited has actively supported communities in the Solomon Islands through charitable donations and youth development initiatives.
The company donated one ton of Nice 1 rice and noodles to Selwyn College and other boarding schools, helping to improve student welfare. It also sponsored SOSA Football Club’s official uniforms in the Telekom Super League, demonstrating its commitment to youth sports and local development.
