West Honiara Member of Parliament, Namson Tran, has extended a timely helping hand to communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Maila in recent days, providing much-needed relief to families impacted by the disaster.
The assistance, which came from the MP’s personal funds, was delivered in the form of essential goods to support affected communities in Lokuru, the Rendova area, and other parts of Western Province.
According to the West Honiara Constituency Office, the relief supplies included over 500 bags of 20kg rice, 100 cartons of Taiyo, along with other essential food items. The supplies were shipped to the affected areas and distributed to families facing hardship following the cyclone.
The support also benefited families of West Honiara constituents whose relatives and family members reside in Western Province, strengthening community ties and ensuring that those in need received immediate assistance.
Community leaders have expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention. The Secretary of the United Church and Community Representative in the affected area conveyed gratitude on behalf of families who received the support.
“Words cannot express how thankful families are for your kind support to people here. Your assistance has brought great relief to those affected by the cyclone,” he said.
Mr Tran’s contribution comes at a critical time, as many communities continue to recover from the impact of Tropical Cyclone Maila, which caused damage to homes, food gardens, and essential infrastructure across parts of Western Province.
The West Honiara Constituency Office emphasized that the assistance reflects Mr Tran’s continued commitment to supporting communities during times of need, both within his constituency and beyond.
The timely delivery of relief supplies has helped ease the burden on affected families and demonstrates the importance of unity and compassion during times of natural disasters.
