The eighth delivery of the Solomon Islands Senior Executive Women in Leadership Programme is underway in Honiara, with 18 senior women executives from across the private, public and state-owned enterprise sectors taking part in a four-day leadership development initiative.
The programme concludes on Wednesday and Thursday this week and is aimed at equipping women in senior management and executive positions with the knowledge, skills and networks needed to advance into chief executive and board leadership roles.
Since 2025, the programme has been delivered by Women in Executive Leadership Solomon Islands (WELSI) following its registration as a professional network supporting and connecting women in senior leadership and executive positions across the country.
The initiative was originally developed through a partnership between the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) and the Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA) with support from the Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI).
Lead facilitator Lilly Lomulo said the programme is focused on empowering women leaders by building their confidence, expanding their knowledge and creating opportunities for them to become transformational leaders.
“It has been inspiring to witness our executives recognise their potential and embrace the value they bring to their workplaces and communities,” Ms Lomulo said.
“This programme is designed for women who are already making a meaningful impact in their organisations and communities and are ready to strengthen their leadership journey even further.”
Throughout the four-day programme, participants are developing practical skills in governance, financial management, risk management and professional branding, while learning directly from experienced leaders who are sharing insights from their own leadership journeys.
WELSI Vice President Dinna Irofufuli said the programme aims to ensure participants leave with practical leadership tools, stronger professional networks, greater confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.
“Our goal is for every participant to leave with practical skills they can immediately apply in their professional and personal leadership journeys, as well as greater confidence in their ability to lead and influence,” Irofufuli said.
“Leadership is not about waiting until you feel completely ready, because the truth is that many of us never do. It is about continually building the knowledge, skills and confidence to step forward when opportunities arise,” she added.
She said WELSI is committed to investing in the development of women leaders and contributing to a stronger and more inclusive leadership landscape in Solomon Islands.
WELSI and its partner organisations hope the latest cohort will further expand a growing network of capable business and professional women equipped to participate effectively in decision-making at the highest levels of organisations.
The Solomon Islands Senior Executive Women in Leadership Programme is specifically designed for women in executive and senior management positions seeking to strengthen their understanding of business operations, governance, leadership, professional networks and executive branding.
