Australia Commended For Transparent Approach to Development in Solomons

National Planning and Development Coordination minister Rexson Ramofafia has commended Australia for its open and transparent approach to development in Solomon Islands.

Ramofafia commented on the launch of the Australia–Solomon Islands Development Partnership Plan 2024-2029, which further strengthens the longstanding partnership between both countries.

He extended sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Australia for the enduring friendship, support, and strong partnership over the years.

“I thank Australia for the open, transparent, and cooperative approach to development in Solomon Islands,” Ramofafia said.

“Australia is the only development partner that has supported all five National Development Strategy objectives and is our largest bilateral partner,” he added.

The Development Partnership Plan sets out how Australia will support the critical needs of Solomon Islanders.

The goal, objectives, priorities, and programs in the development partnership were established in consultation with the Solomon Islands Government and are guided by the Solomon Islands’ National Development Strategy (2016-2035) and Australia’s International Development Policy.

The Development Partnership Plan outlines three shared objectives, including supporting inclusive economic growth, infrastructure, and job creation; investing in people, communities, and links to Australia and the region; and improving stability, security, and resilience.

“Solomon Islands values our longstanding partnership with Australia, our most comprehensive development partner, and looks forward to working together on this Plan over the years ahead,” said Minister Ramofafia.

Eyeing a future of stronger mutual cooperation between Solomon Islands and Australia.

The Australia-Solomon Islands Development Partnership Plan (DPP) is a five-year plan that translates into action the development priorities Australia shares with Solomon Islands, by outlining a comprehensive framework for supporting the Solomon Islands’ national development priorities with a focus on inclusive economic growth, infrastructure development, job creation, and stability.

The Plan is aligned to the Solomon Islands National Development Strategy 2016-2035, the Government for National Unity and Transformation policies, and the Solomon Islands Aid Management and Development Cooperation Policy.

This plan is critical since it ensures adherence to the Aid effectiveness principles and, more importantly, it ensures that national priorities are supported.

A wide range of stakeholders, including government, civil society organisations, and development delivery partners, in Australia and the Solomon Islands, were consulted in the preparation of the Development Partnership Plan.
