Australia’s Assistant Minister For Pacific Island Affairs In Honiara

Australia’s Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator the Hon Nita Green, has concluded her first day visiting Solomon Islands.

Assistant Minister Green is in Honiara this week representing Australia at the PACER Plus Ministerial Meeting (PPMM) and engaging on priorities in Australia’s bilateral partnership with Solomon Islands.

Assistant Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, Senator the Hon Nita Green met Foreign Minister Shanel to discuss Australia’s deep and enduring partnership with Solomon Islands.

PACER Plus is the region’s most modern framework for rules-based trade, driving regional economic integration.

The PPMM marks five years since the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) Plus came into force.

“I was honoured to meet Foreign Minister Shanel today to discuss Australia’s deep and enduring partnership with Solomon Islands,” Assistant Minister Green said. 

Talks covered deepening regional economic integration, including through Australia’s support for PACER Plus. Ministers also discussed priorities for the partnership, including climate change and labour mobility programs such as the PALM Scheme and Australia’s Pacific Engagement Visa.

“Australia is making commitments for the long term, listening and responding to Solomon Islands priorities,” Assistant Minister Green said.
