Chinese Police Train Local Community in Self Defence

Communities in Bloody Ridge, east of Honiara, have received self-defence and crime prevention training from the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT).

The training was delivered through the CPLT’s partnership with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) as part of its community engagement programme.

A statement from the police said participants learned basic self-defence techniques, how to manage suspects in groups, and how to approach and communicate with intoxicated individuals while maintaining personal safety.

The training also covered de-escalating conflicts, responding to emergencies and providing first aid.

“Participants were also taught when to seek police assistance, particularly when situations escalate beyond their ability to manage safely,” the statement said.

“The programme aimed to strengthen community members’ knowledge and practical skills in maintaining safety and preventing crime,” it added.

The CPLT also donated T-shirts, soccer balls, volleyballs and backpacks to the communities.

Bloody Ridge Crime Prevention Committee chairman Haniel Miniti thanked the CPLT instructors and RSIPF NCPD for delivering the programme.

Miniti said the training was the first of its kind conducted at the community level in Bloody Ridge.

He welcomed the positive participation of community members and said the programme had provided useful knowledge and practical skills, including first aid and the importance of taking an active role in promoting a safer and healthier community.

This is the latest community to have received such training from Chinese police.
