East Makira Farmers received tools  from China

Farmers in East Makira Constituency have received a boost to their agricultural activities.

This was  following the handover of farming equipment and tools from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), facilitated through the support of east Makira MP  Franklyn Derek Wasi.

A statement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock stated the donation, comprising essential farming tools and equipment, was presented to the Marunga Farmers Association, which represents cocoa and coconut farmers on Makira-Ulawa Province’s eastern coast.

The tools are intended to strengthen the productivity and resilience of smallholder farmers, particularly those engaged in cocoa and coconut production—key income-generating crops for rural communities in the province.

Hon. Franklyn Wasi expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the PRC for their partnership in supporting rural livelihoods.

He said the tools will enhance farmers’ capacity to improve production and sustain farming activities.

“This assistance will empower our farmers to cultivate, harvest, and process crops more efficiently,” Hon. Wasi said.

“We are grateful to the PRC for their ongoing commitment to rural development in Makira-Ulawa Province.”

Hon. Wasi, also the Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL), stressed that such collaborations contribute to the Government’s broader goal of strengthening the agriculture sector and improving rural livelihoods.
