Among the significant policy shifts envisioned for the Solomon Islands, newly elected Prime Minister Matthew Wale has declared that implementing free education is at the forefront of his administration’s agenda.
Speaking to Journalists after being sworn in as Prime Minister, Mr Wale outlined various areas requiring change, with free education as one of the keys.
“Well, we’re focused on free education.
“That’s a big one for us. The education resource is a critical resource for this country, both as building society but also as an economic resource. So that’s key,” Wale told reporters.
He also touched on economic policy.
“We live in very precarious times and we are going to take very seriously changing direction in terms of the economy, making Solomon Islanders active participants, not spectators. That’s the focus,” PM Wale added.
“…. these won’t be achieved in two years, but we’re going to have a really good go at it.”
When asked when to expect his lineup of cabinet ministers, Prime Minister Wale provided the following timeline.
“Give me a few days. Hopefully by the end of Sunday we’ll have the cabinet done.
“But leaders will be discussing these things, so maybe a day or two after that. All things being equal, let’s hope we can have it done by Sunday.
“We have much work to do and no time to waste. So join me in this work,” Prime Minister Wale said.
