Minister for Rural Development and North Malaita MP, Hon. Daniel Waneoroa, has paid tribute to the late Daniel Suidani, describing him “a symbol of courage, a voice for the voiceless, and a champion of indigenous dignity who stood firm for the rights and welfare of his people.”
Mr Waneoroa, is the Party Wing Leader of the UMI For Change (U4C) Party which was part of the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) Coalition, under Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele.
The U4C is a political party formed by the late Suidani, ahead of the Solomon Islands National Joint Elections in 2024. He was the President of the party, at the time of his passing.
In a condolence statement, Minister Waneoroa expressed his profound sorrow at the passing of the outspoken former Malaita Premier, who was also the MPA for Ward 5, West Baegu/Fataleka.
“The news of his passing has been received with profound sorrow by our Party and all who have walked with him in the cause of truth, justice, and people-centred leadership,” he said.
“Hon. Suidani was more than a leader — he was a symbol of courage, a voice for the voiceless, and a champion of indigenous dignity who stood firm for the rights and welfare of his people.”
In his condolence message addressed to Suidani’s wife, Margaret Mini and the late leader’s family, Hon. Waneoroa extended “deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy” on behalf of the Executive and Members of the U4C Party.
“To the family, we recognise the immense sacrifice you have made in allowing him to serve his people and nation with such devotion,” he said.
“May the comfort of God’s love, the unity of your family, and the prayers of friends and communities near and far bring you strength and peace during this time of great loss.”
Hon. Waneoroa said the late Suidani’s legacy would continue to inspire generations across Malaita and the Solomon Islands.
“While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life — a life marked by service, humility, conviction, and the courage to stand firm when it mattered most.
“His legacy will remain a guiding light for our Party and the people of Malaita and Solomon Islands as a whole,” he stated, in the statement.
Hon. Waneoroa described the late Suidani’s leadership as visionary and people-driven, one that “stood for a just, transparent, and people-driven Solomon Islands.”
“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his vision for a better, fairer, and more self-reliant Solomon Islands continue through all of us who were touched by his leadership,” he concluded.
The late Hon. Daniel Suidani served as Premier of Malaita Province from 2019-2023. His tenure was marked by strong advocacy for indigenous rights, transparency, and the empowerment of ordinary Solomon Islanders.
