Prime Minister of Solomon Islands, Matthew Wale arrived on Wednesday morning in Taro for his reassurance visit to Cyclone Maila impacted areas in Western and Choiseul provinces.
The Prime Minister and his delegation will pay a courtesy visit to the Choiseul Premier and his executive before visiting the affected areas.
Wale and his delegation are expected to visit Katurasele village, surrounding communities and the impacted infrastructures including schools and clinics.
The newly established Government for Reform, Empowerment, Accountability & Transformation (GREAT) has made disaster response and recovery a central priority.Â
These visits are designed to strengthen collaboration with provincial leadership, demonstrate the Government’s commitment, reassurance and ensure that the voices of those most affected are heard.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the focus will be on rebuilding essential services, restoring livelihoods and laying the foundation for long‑term development.Â
“The purpose of the visit is to reaffirm the new Government’s commitment to supporting affected provinces and communities, assuring the people that their welfare and recovery remain a central priority,” it said, in a statement.
The Prime Minister and his Cabinet Ministers will also engage with provincial leaders and community representatives, reinforcing continuity of response and recovery efforts.
