Police say 13 houses, including a fuel depot and kitchens, were burnt down at Naharahau village, Wainoni, in East Makira over the weekend.
Food gardens were also destroyed during the incident on 13 September.
According to police, the incident was sparked by suspicions of sorcery following the death of a person.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Gordon Horomae said his officers attended to the incident between two groups and are now in control of the situation.
Kirakira said the incident was sparked by Police have attended to the report and engaged with both parties involved in the burning incident.
PPC Horomae said it was alleged that the incident may have been carried out in retaliation for the death of a relative of the arson group.
“More officers will be deployed to the area. I called on members of both groups to cooperate and allow police to investigate the case properly,” Hormone said.
