Man Killed After Falling Tree Crushes Home During Severe Weather in Noro, Western Solomons

A man was killed when a large tree fell onto his home during severe weather in Noro, Western Province, on Tuesday afternoon, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred at around 2:00pm on 27 January 2026, when strong winds brought down a tree onto a leaf-built residential house, trapping the adult male occupant inside.

Police say Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene, and the victim was transported to Helena Goldie Hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead.

“Police investigations are currently underway, with officers from Noro and Munda working together to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Initial assessments suggest the death was linked to the extreme weather conditions experienced at the time.” the police said, in a statement.

The matter is being handled by the investigators, who will conduct a full investigation to determine contributing factors and identify any possible preventive measures.

Meanwhile, Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during periods of bad weather, particularly in areas where large trees and unstable structures may pose a risk.

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and community affected by this tragic incident during this difficult time.
